There were many Swedish losses during Monday, but some highlights as well. One of them was Emma Shasteen who won a tough match in three sets.
The main tournament started early on Monday for this year’s Kungens Kanna & Drottningens Pris. Nine Swedes competed in the girls’ single and twelve Swedes was fighting for a spot in the second round in the boys singles. The first Swede to get there was Adam Heinonen, who defeated Lovro Suevich with 6-1, 5-7, 6-1. Even Ross Weibull won his match, beating Oskari Eerola comfortable with 6-1, 6-2.
But all in all, Sweden had a tough day. KLTK’s Leo Borg managed to push the Spaniard Angel Guerrero Melgar into three sets. But in the deciding set the Spaniard was a bit sharper and managed to win with 6-4.
– Leo did it great. He had a tough start but then he played really good, says KLTK’s head coach Magnus Ennerberg.
The tough competition did not go unnoticed on the girls’ side. Only one managed to win the first round. KLTK’s Emma Shasteen won a tough battle against the Russian qualifier Daria Krasnova with 6-3, 4-6 and 6-4. After losing the second set the Swede managed to stay focused and won a tight deciding set.
– I played very good and aggressive. I managed to stay focused mentally during the third set, says Shasteen who will face Denmark’s number one, Clara Tausen, tomorrow.
